Waikerie Little Athletics runners up in regional championships

WAIKERIE’S Little Athletics Club were runners up in the inaugural Riverland Regional Athletics Country Championships, recently held in Mildura.
Mildura & Districts had 81 athletes competing, Waikerie had 29 entrants, Barmera had four, and Loxton five.
Each participant could compete in up-to five events.
Waikerie Little Athletics club president Nissa Fitzgerald said the event gave the Riverland and Mildura Little Athletics clubs a chance to experience a regional championship.
“The event gave those involved the opportunity to compete against young athletes from other clubs as well as making new friends,” she said.
Ms Fitzgerald said the competition enables youngsters to experience the athletics standards for their individual age group.
The Waikerie Little Athletics Club is hoping to host the next Riverland Regional Athletics Country Championships in Waikerie next year.
“The event is in its planning stages,” Ms Fitzgerald said.
Waikerie also took home a total of 63 ribbons.
