RFL Top 25: The countdown is over

FOR the second year in a row, sports editor Ben Lennon is opening himself up to widespread ridicule with the now annual RFL top 25.
A blockbuster year of Riverland footy is now well and truly done and dusted, and the silly season is under way, with the Riverland rumour mill in full swing.
But, this list will concentrate on players that featured in the most recent season, and is designed to spark front bar conversations across the region.
It takes into account the season that was and weighs it up against overall ability, as well as how valuable each player is to their respective team.
The result is a 25-name long list, with five names revealed in each week’s Murray Pioneer as we count down to number one.
After an injury-ridden 2023, will Tim Woolford remain at the top of the tree? Or, is there a new king of the Riverland castle?
The most notable absentee in the list and the classic number 26 is leading goalkicker Ryan Proud, but the Riverland footballing fraternity will no doubt come up with plenty of other opinions, so send them through to our text phone on 0439 261 337.
After a month-long countdown, we have finally reached the top five, and it is dominated by the grand final sides.

5 – Dan Woolford
The second of three Woolford brothers
