Mallee Football League set to fold

The Mallee Football League and Mallee Netball Association are set to fold.

The news follows announcements from a number of clubs that they have, or will, apply to move on to other leagues next year.

The executive committee said this morning the Karoonda and Districts Football and Netball Clubs and the Peake and District Football and Netball Clubs had advised the league and association that they intend to amalgamate and apply to enter the River Murray Football and Netball Leagues from 2023.

The statement also says Murrayville Football and Netball Clubs have also advised they have applied to join the Murray Valley Football and Netball League (formerly the RFL Independents), and intend to play there next year.

It follows Border Downs Tintinara Football and Netball Clubs previously advising they are amalgamating with the Meningie Football and Netball Clubs, and participating in the River Murray Football and Netball Leagues from 2023.

The MFL and MNA said the decisions mean they will no longer exist in 2023.

The Mallee Football League was created in 1994, following the merger of Lameroo and Districts and Murraylands football leagues.
