Bombers fly past Redbacks in upset

ONE of the upsets of the Murray Valley Football League’s 2024 season occurred in Saturday afternoon’s preliminary final, as Brown’s Well booked a ticket to the grand final.
Travelling to Blanchetown to take on the minor premiers, Brown’s Well won through to a second-straight grand final on the back of a dominant second term.
With BSR holding a four-point advantage at quarter time, the Bombers made the most of the blustery conditions, kicking five goals to nil, leading by 27 points at the half time interval.
Brown’s Well, which finished the regular season in third spot, continued to pile on the pain in the third term, outscoring the Roosters by three goals to two, all but sealing the victory.
A relatively even final quarter proved too little too late for the Redbacks, with the Bombers ultimately claiming a 44-point win.
Gun forward Harrison Chandler was the key piece of the puzzle in the Brown’s Well attack kicking five goals, while Levi Francis and Ty McKenzie each kicked two.
Midfielder Levi Francis was named best in the victory alongside fellow ball magnet Bryce Oxlade, and defender Jeremy Sumner.
Defender Adam Pickering played an important role on Maxwell Fitzgerald in a valiant effort for BSR alongside Cameron Horstmann and Blake Webster, but it wasn’t enough to curtail the straight sets exit.
Murrayville now awaits Brown’s Well in the inaugural MVFNL decider this weekend at Cambrai.
The Blues have produced a stellar campaign, before winning the qualifying final against BSR in its most recent outing at Paringa.
The first bounce at Cambrai Sports Club is set for 2:30pm on Saturday afternoon.
