HAVING suffered a disappointing defeat to Cobdogla the previous week, Berri returned to the winners list in fine style on Friday night in the latest round of division one tennis.
Travelling to Loxton to take on Loxton White, a comprehensive performance from Berri ensured it kept second spot in tact, dropping just two rubbers during the match.
Taking out three of the four matches in the opening set of doubles, Berri were already in prime position, with Dasith Jayatilake, and Cooper Staehr among the top performers for the visitors.
Andrew Waters fought admirably for Loxton, winning his double alongside Rhys Loxton, as well as tasting victory in the singles battle against Ben Rogers.
However, Berri continued keeping the foot on the throat for the remainder of the match, which secured the six-rubber victory.
Just two rounds of Riverland tennis remain ahead of the finals, with Berri taking on Renmark this Saturday, hoping to lock in second spot.
Elsewhere, Loxton Yellow’s finals hopes suffered a damaging dent on Friday night, when it was handed one of the biggest defeats of the season by Cobdogla.
All 10 rubbers in the match went the way of Cobdogla, who at home, continue to be a formidable force, and are yet to record a loss in the season.
The tone for Cobdogla’s performance was set in the early stages, when Sam Butterworth and Hayden Carter combined to put their side into such a strong position, as did Cohen Battams and Justin Inglis.
The four continued their dominance in the singles fixtures, winning each of the matches in comprehensive fashion, leaving little in their wake.
The likes of Brooke Reichelt and Justin Lane fought valiantly for Loxton Yellow, but it failed to swing the scoreboard.
Both Loxton White and Loxton Yellow sit on the bottom of the ladder with just two wins apiece, both hoping to secure the final spot in the top four.
Note: Riverland junior tennis was cancelled on Saturday afternoon due to hot weather in the region.
