Gurra Gurra residents told to evacuate
1 min read

GURRA Gurra residents have been told to prepare to evacuate, due to the flooding River Murray.

The SA SES has issued a ‘flood watch and act’ for the area, just over the Berri Bridge, warning that residents risk being trapped by the rising waters.

“There is a high risk of flooding for low lying areas of Gurra Gurra, due to rapid river level rises in the River Murray, that may threaten your safety,” the SES said in a statement.

“Regardless of your property's ability to withstand flood impacts there is a chance you may become flooded or isolated.

“If you remain in the area you may become trapped without water, power and other essential services.

“You should now prepare to evacuate. If the situation worsens it may not be safe to leave. It may be too dangerous for emergency services to assist you.”

Gurra Gurra residents recently campaigned successfully to have a 300m stretch of built-up road installed along Gurra Road, to ensure they were able to access Berri Bridge, following the closure of Bookpurnong Road, linking Berri to Loxton.
