I’m amazed at the amount of disused poly pipe and treated pine posts that are scattered all over the Riverland. Speaking to land owners, they all want to get rid of it, but the only way is to pay for it to be dumped, and it’s expensive. Surely the government could meaningfully assist by offering a short-term window for farmers to offload these items at no cost, at a designated spot where the accumulated materials can sit, until disposal can be undertaken in a proper manner. That would take pressure off the farmers.
