THE YEARS GO BY

Banner for LoxStory. LoxStory (Loxton’s History) is a Loxton and District Archive seeking to conserve our district’s historic papers, documents, diaries, books, photos, films, and oral histories. The archive aims to provide ready access to aspects of Loxton’s history via hard copies and the web. Its mission is to preserve historical assets, learn and interpret Loxton’s history and, in making sense of our past, inform the district’s future. LoxStory aims to extract the stories, and to make these known to individuals, families, local groups, schools and others. LoxStory volunteers are securing and sorting photos, searching history, seeking family history links, and occasionally separating myth from fact to solve mysteries while preparing stories from our history. LoxStory had its beginnings in 2007 in preparing for the town’s Centenary of Proclamation. Further attempts to establish a district archive in 2011 and 2012 were again without progress though it was clear an archive was needed. A fresh call for a local archive was made in 2020 and a volunteer Committee re-established. Our nation is currently hungering for ‘story telling’ to learn about and understand our culture as first-nation or later Australians. LoxStory, as a volunteer committee, seeks to conserve and understand Loxton’s unique culture. The Committee is affiliated with Loxton’s Community Heritage Group Inc.
