WAIKERIE Rotarians have again extended a helping hand – this time to patients undergoing the COVID-19 jab.
The Rotary Club of Waikerie has been helping out at the Waikerie Medical Centre’s (WMC) COVID-19 vaccination roll-out by supplying coffee and biscuits for a gold coin donation while patients wait the compulsory 15 minutes after receiving the jab.
Dr Ian Gartley said all doctors and staff at the WMC were “very appreciative” of Rotary’s offer to help out.
“We’ve had a very smooth, if slow, roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccine clinic so far,” he said.
“All our patients have been very understanding in regards to eligibility criteria and the fact that we only receive a certain number of vaccines every week.
“Rotary’s offer to supply coffee and cake to the patients has helped a lot too – it’s turned the clinic a bit more social, and people have been content to sit and have a ‘cuppa’.
“The vaccine roll-out will continue to be slow going, but everyone at the WMC is very grateful to our local Rotarians, and our patients for their co-operation.”
