A WAIKERIE photographic club donated the sales of its 2021 calendar to a community historical group.
The Waikerie Photography Club passed a $300 cheque to the Waikerie Historical Society, which member Julie Webber said would go towards helping the group further preserve Waikerie’s history.
“We’re already planning for History Month this May, and are thinking of holding some history walks around the town and putting some photo prints in shop windows,” she said.
“After History Month events were largely cancelled last year, we’re hoping to get back into things and remind the community that we’re still here and still preserving our history.
“A huge thank you to the photography club members; their donation is very generous and another example of Waikerie community support.
“The money will go towards archival boxes and photo pages.”
Waikerie Photography Club member Connie Little said all photography club members contributed one or more photos to be featured in the 2021 calendar.
“We printed 150 calendars and all of them sold out,” she said.
“We might put out a call for pre-orders for the 2022 calendar early just to see how things are looking before ordering the prints next time – it’s great that the community is so supportive of our projects.
“The calendar features a wide range of photos all taken by locals across the year.”
Meanwhile, photography club member Jenni Searle said nine workshops would be held throughout the year, with two successful events already done and dusted.
“We’re holding a series of workshops and clinics for amateur and enthusiastic photographers,” she said.
“Workshops will take place across the region with photography extraordinaires such as Charles Tambiah and Grant Schwartzkopff, while we will also run clinics with the Rain Moth Gallery at the Waikerie Riverfront,” she said.
“Both sets of events are open to members and non-members, and the first two workshops were well attended.
“Our next workshop will be focusing on sports photography with Grant Schwartzkopff, to be held at the Waikerie Football Club on March 27 – just in time for the beginning of the footy season.
