THE return of yard dogs is among a long list of highlights of the 2025 Karoonda Farm Fair & Show, to be held at Karoonda Oval on Friday and Saturday, 28 to 29 March.
Event president Robin Hood said organisers had worked hard to produce a full program of events for this year’s Farm Fair.
“Yes, we’ve got some new attractions this year, but also our traditional ones, who’ve been coming for quite a few years,” he said.
“It’s a family-friendly event, and I’m confident we’ve got something for everyone.”
The “traditional” events include the return of the Karoonda yard dogs competition.
“Last year we didn’t have them, because we clashed with the national finals in Western Australia,” Mr Hood explained.
“But they’re back this year and looking good.”
Switching the competition shearing from Friday to Saturday is a major change to this year’s program.
“We’ve nearly got a full complement of competition shearers on the Saturday,” Mr Hood said.
“It means we’ve got all of the sports shearing and speed shearing happening at the same time. We used to do some of the shearing late Friday night, but (this year) it’ll be full bore from Saturday morning to probably 10 at night.”
The amateur wool-handling competition will remain programmed for Friday, while professionals will compete for cash prizes on Saturday.
The 2025 Karoonda Farm Fair & Show will feature plenty of attractions for children and families, including laser tag, a horse-drawn cart (taking people from the showgrounds, into the Karoonda township and back again), and live music, plus the expansive list of approximately 250 exhibitors.
While the event is predominantly focused on primary industry, machinery and services, it also showcases a range of general interest products and entertainment.
“The lifestyle pavilion is popular with visitors and exhibitors alike, boasting a vast array of products including clothing, cosmetics, homewares and technology, as well as representatives from relative government departments and health and financial services,” Mr Hood said.
“We’ve also got the popular fashion parade.”
This year’s Farm Fair also sees the return of a relocated speakers tent, starting from 11.30am on Friday and 10.30am on Saturday and running right through both days, until late afternoon.
Speakers include well-known gardener Sophie Thomson, The Unbreakable Farmer (Warren Davies), Wilbur’s Wildlife animal chat, Forest Bathing (mindful therapy), and Markus Hammence (who will present a succulents workshop and a propagation workshop, both on Saturday).
Meanwhile entry fees have been frozen this year at: $15 adults; $25 for a two-day pass; $5 for under 18s. Under 12 are free entry.

Scone competition
Entrees for the Laucke & CWA Scone Mix Competition (Best Sweet Scone) for the 2025 Karoonda Farm Fair & Show close this Friday 21 March.
“Think you’ve got the perfect scone recipe? Now’s your chance to prove it,” organisers said.
“Use the Laucke Country Women’s Scone Mix (provided upon entry) to bake your best sweet scones.
“Whether you’re a scone pro or a first-timer, it’s all about that perfect rise, golden crust, and delicious crumb. Let’s see your baking skills.”
