Learn how to spot suicide sufferers

A FREE suicide intervention course is being held in Waikerie this Friday to give participants the skills and knowledge to approach someone they suspect is having troubling thoughts.
The Community Response to Eliminating Suicide (CORES) Riverland one-day course is being held at the Waikerie Football Club rooms this Friday from 9am until 4pm.
Rotary Club of Waikerie president Maureen Phillips said the course would help people recognise when a person may be at risk of self-harm or suicide.
“As we all know, suicide rates are higher in the regions than the suburbs, and we want to give people the skills necessary to recognise when someone they love may be in danger,” she said.
“There is still stigma attached to suicide and mental health.
“This course is for those who may suspect someone they know is having troubling thoughts and want to know how to approach the person, how to talk to them and help.”
The course is sponsored by the District Council of Loxton Waikerie and the Rotary Club of Waikerie. Morning tea and lunch will be provided.
