RENMARK’s Kierra Schumann has been selected to join the team of 12 residential advisors (RA) at Adelaide’s St Ann’s College, taking on a shared-caretaking role for the 199 students who live at the residential college during the 2025 academic year.
Kierra, 18, is entering her second year as a resident of St Ann’s College and in her degree at the University of Adelaide, where she is currently studying for a Bachelor of Paramedicine.
Kierra said she chose the degree because she “has always had an interest in the health field and health care”.
“I want to have something different to do every day — the unpredictability appeals to me,” she said.
Residential advisors are a highly regarded position at the college and their main goal is to facilitate a harmonious community. The role primarily assists the principal/CEO and dean of the college with academic and social leadership, pastoral care of resident students, and other related administrative tasks.
“I wanted to give back to the college,” Kierra said.
“During my first year the RA team helped me a lot and made me more comfortable moving away from home.
“I want to pay it forward and help other first year students settle into college next year.”
Kierra has taken on several activities in her first year at St Ann’s College, being a key athlete in the SAAUCC intercollegiate sporting competition, playing football, hockey, netball, tennis and volleyball. She was involved in these same sports at Renmark High School, while also serving as house captain, and coaching volleyball, and netball at the Renmark Netball Club.
“I am delighted to have someone with Kierra’s skillset as an undergraduate paramedic in the RA team,” St. Ann’s College principal and CEO Wendy Fleming said.
“She is highly organised, balancing her university, college and high-level sporting commitments to great effect.”
